Who is a Mentor? What is Spiritual Mentorship?
Spiritual Mentors, formed by and under the auspices of Holy Family School of Faith, serve as a guide and companion to others on their journey to holiness. They are Catholics who have a daily habit of prayer, frequent the sacraments, desire to increase their knowledge of the faith, grow in the virtues, and an apostolate to help others do the same.
Spiritual Mentors are formed to:
Help the mentee establish a habit of daily prayer with a resolution
Teach the mentee how to prepare to receive the sacraments and the importance of thanksgiving after receiving the sacraments
Teach the mentee the steps of how to make prudent decisions
Help the mentee grow in virtue
Help the mentee formulate a Rule or Plan of Life
Support the mentee in his or her state of life and vocation
Pray for the mentee
Allow the Holy Spirit to be the prime director in the relationship with the mentee
Hold the mentee accountable
The mentor will maintain confidentiality with regard to the mentee
Spiritual Mentorship is not*
Spiritual Mentorship is not Grief or Marriage Counseling (person wanting psychological help for a situation that he/she is experiencing).
Spiritual Mentorship is not Psychotherapy (the person is wanting a cure, the resolution of a psychic conflict, the professional is responsible for the cure of the patient).
Spiritual Mentorship is not Confession (This is a sacrament administered only by a priest).
Spiritual Mentors do not offer mentoring to persons of the opposite gender.
Spiritual Mentors do not offer spiritual mentorship to a minor.
We look forward to beginning this journey with you.
